Flourishing Day - Saturday 7th July 2018

St Edmund's Parish invites all Parents to take a day out of their busy schedule to relax, reflect and revisit some quick and easy Mindfulness techniques to support them going forward in this busy stressful world we live in today. The day is aimed at both Mums and Dads and will be led by Dr Patrick Coyne, a young charismatic Diocesan Spiritual Director and ex Consultant in Mental Health. It is hoped the weather will be kind and we can reflect in the open air during the lunch and coffee breaks. The day starts promptly at 10am and will finish in good time for parents of children at St Edmund's School to attend the Summer Fair at 4pm.

Places are limited so please book ASAP to avoid disappointment. Payment can be made by electronic transfer, or cash can be left in the school office in an envelope marked for my attention, or given to me at the Masses next weekend 16/17th June at Godalming, Farncombe & Milford where I shall be giving out the flyers. Email bookings to angelagilmour181@btinternet.com 07549 522338.

Godalming Choral Society Summer Concert - Sunday 1st July 2018

On behalf of GCS:

Our summer concert is on Sunday 1st July when Godalming Choral Society, with bass Jonathan Veira, will sing three songs which young opera composer Noah Mosley has written for them, setting words from Gertrude Jekyll's books. The world-famous garden designer lived and worked in Godalming and the choir wants to honour her in the 175th anniversary of her birth and their own 50th anniversary. The three beautiful songs are:

The Flower Year; The Hardy Flower Border; The Primrose Copse.

The rest of the programme marks other anniversaries - Ethel Smyth March of the Women, Lucy Pankhurst Anthem for the 100th anniversary of votes for women and Leonard Bernstein West Side Story for the anniversary of his birth in August 1918. It is also including Vaughan Williams Serenade To Music

Conductor: Sam Hayes. 7.30pm Sunday 1st July, The Great Hall, Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 2DX. Tickets £15. See website for details: www.godalmingchoral.org.uk

Parish Pilgrimage 2018 - Tuesday May 8th

We are going to have our first parish pilgrimage in a long time and are delighted that Father David has agreed to lead us. The date for your diaries is TUESDAY MAY 8th and the destination is Aylesford Priory near Maidstone. Founded back in the 13th century by the Carmelites the Priory sits in a lovely, peaceful setting with extensive grounds. It is a popular retreat destination and is used to receiving parish groups. There are two cafes on site for refreshments or you can bring your own picnic lunch.

Following on from the successful series of talks we held last August on Aspects of Mary, and bearing in mind that May is the month of Our Lady, we will continue this theme for our pilgrimage by looking at Marian prayers such as the “Hail Holy Queen”, “Regina Coeli” and the Angelus. Father David will also celebrate Mass and we hope to follow the Rosary Way around the grounds.

We depart Godalming by coach at 8.30am and leave the Priory at 3.30pm, hopefully back by 5.30pm. The cost will be £19 per person which includes travel and Priory fees.

Although May is half a year away we believe this pilgrimage will be popular so we will start taking reservations now and suggest you apply soon to guarantee a place.

(As of November 28th the coach is already half full.)

To book a seat on the coach, or for further information, contact Jan Honeysett – email honeysett@btinternet.com, tel 01483 429615 or complete the application form in the newsletter and place in the offertory plate in an envelope marked 'Parish Pilgrimage'.

We hope you agree this is exciting news and expect this pilgrimage will be the first of many with Father David as he is an experienced retreat director and is keen that the parish embraces the opportunity to deepen our spirituality. If you haven’t joined in a pilgrimage before this is your chance to try the experience: it is open to all.

Musicians Needed!

A big thank you to all those involved in music ministry in our Parish. However, we need more people with musical ability to continue to help animate the Mass with live music. This is particularly important for the ‘high points’ of our Christian life, Christmas, Easter, First Holy Communions, weddings, baptisms and in pastoral support for the bereaved at funerals. Please do not let this very important ministry rest on the shoulders of a few people! Please contact us if you can help in any way.
