2019 Parish Pilgrimage to sites of special Catholic interest in London

Thursday 16th May 2019

Following the successful Parish pilgrimage to Aylesford Priory in 2018, plans are now confirmed for the 2019 Parish pilgrimage. This will take place on Thursday 16th May with a day-long visit, led by Fr David, to three sites of special Catholic interest in London.

The pilgrimage starts with a visit to St Etheldreda's Church in Ely Place, one of the oldest catholic churches in England. Fr David will celebrate Mass in the church, which will be followed by lunch in the church crypt.

The next visit is to Corpus Christi Church on Maiden Lane, just off the Strand. The church is now described as ‘The Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament’ since Cardinal Vincent Nichols raised it to this dignity in 2018. There will be time to look round before gathering for quiet reflection and the option of reciting a decade of the Rosary together.

The pilgrimage ends with a visit to Tyburn Convent where one of the sisters will take the group around the historical sites and explain their significance.

After tea and cake the coach will head home at 5pm.

Practical information

  • The coach departs from St Joseph's, Milford, at 8am and returns at 6.30pm
  • Bring your own picnic lunch and a mug for tea
  • There will be minimal walking with coach transfer from venue to venue
  • The cost is £26 per person, to include coach travel and entry to all venues.

November Evening of Prayer for the Parish - Wednesday 21st November 2018

The second evening of prayer on the theme of parish renewal and Divine Renovation will take place at St Joseph's on Wednesday 21st November from 7.45 to 8.30pm. The evening includes readings, a period of quiet reflection, sharing and intercessory prayer and is followed by refreshments.

First Evening of Prayer for the Parish - Wednesday 17th October 2018

Many parishioners gathered at St Joseph's on Wednesday 17th October for a special time of prayer on the theme of parish renewal and Divine Renovation, guided and presented by Jo Lewry.

The evening started prayerfully to the sound of Taize music, and two readings on the theme of the gifts of the Holy Spirit were followed by a period of quiet reflection, sharing and intercessory prayer.

The gathering was enhanced by Jo's use of the superb new TV screens to great effect, with beautiful images and words to accompany the reflections.

Well done to Jo for inaugurating the screens and for organising the first evening of prayer for the parish. The next evening of prayer will take place on Wednesday 21st November.

Flourishing Day - Saturday 7th July 2018

St Edmund's Parish invites all Parents to take a day out of their busy schedule to relax, reflect and revisit some quick and easy Mindfulness techniques to support them going forward in this busy stressful world we live in today. The day is aimed at both Mums and Dads and will be led by Dr Patrick Coyne, a young charismatic Diocesan Spiritual Director and ex Consultant in Mental Health. It is hoped the weather will be kind and we can reflect in the open air during the lunch and coffee breaks. The day starts promptly at 10am and will finish in good time for parents of children at St Edmund's School to attend the Summer Fair at 4pm.

Places are limited so please book ASAP to avoid disappointment. Payment can be made by electronic transfer, or cash can be left in the school office in an envelope marked for my attention, or given to me at the Masses next weekend 16/17th June at Godalming, Farncombe & Milford where I shall be giving out the flyers. Email bookings to angelagilmour181@btinternet.com 07549 522338.

Parish Pilgrimage 2018 - Tuesday May 8th

We are going to have our first parish pilgrimage in a long time and are delighted that Father David has agreed to lead us. The date for your diaries is TUESDAY MAY 8th and the destination is Aylesford Priory near Maidstone. Founded back in the 13th century by the Carmelites the Priory sits in a lovely, peaceful setting with extensive grounds. It is a popular retreat destination and is used to receiving parish groups. There are two cafes on site for refreshments or you can bring your own picnic lunch.

Following on from the successful series of talks we held last August on Aspects of Mary, and bearing in mind that May is the month of Our Lady, we will continue this theme for our pilgrimage by looking at Marian prayers such as the “Hail Holy Queen”, “Regina Coeli” and the Angelus. Father David will also celebrate Mass and we hope to follow the Rosary Way around the grounds.

We depart Godalming by coach at 8.30am and leave the Priory at 3.30pm, hopefully back by 5.30pm. The cost will be £19 per person which includes travel and Priory fees.

Although May is half a year away we believe this pilgrimage will be popular so we will start taking reservations now and suggest you apply soon to guarantee a place.

(As of November 28th the coach is already half full.)

To book a seat on the coach, or for further information, contact Jan Honeysett – email honeysett@btinternet.com, tel 01483 429615 or complete the application form in the newsletter and place in the offertory plate in an envelope marked 'Parish Pilgrimage'.

We hope you agree this is exciting news and expect this pilgrimage will be the first of many with Father David as he is an experienced retreat director and is keen that the parish embraces the opportunity to deepen our spirituality. If you haven’t joined in a pilgrimage before this is your chance to try the experience: it is open to all.

Musicians Needed!

A big thank you to all those involved in music ministry in our Parish. However, we need more people with musical ability to continue to help animate the Mass with live music. This is particularly important for the ‘high points’ of our Christian life, Christmas, Easter, First Holy Communions, weddings, baptisms and in pastoral support for the bereaved at funerals. Please do not let this very important ministry rest on the shoulders of a few people! Please contact us if you can help in any way.

CAFOD Quiz Night 2017 - Saturday 21st October
